About WhatnotFee

A single-purpose tool: work out what a Whatnot sale actually pays you, using the rates Whatnot publishes, including the tiered structure that took effect on 21 September 2026.

Why it exists

When Whatnot replaced its flat commission with tiered rates, every calculator that showed “8% for everyone” became wrong overnight — and almost all of them still are. The size of the error is small on a single sale and large across a month: a seller in Fashion at Tier 3 pays 5.50%, not 8.00%, and a coins seller pays 3.70% where the headline number says 4%.

The other reason is that the answer depends on facts a percentage cannot capture: the $0.30 fixed processing fee dominates a $20 sale, and VAT in the EU and UK changes what a VAT-registered seller actually keeps. Both are modelled here.

How the numbers are verified

The commission tables are not typed in by hand. A script reads Whatnot's seller fee article, parses every market, category and tier, and generates the data file the site is built from. A second run of the same script compares Whatnot's current page with what is in the repository and fails the build if they differ. If Whatnot changes a rate and this site does not, the site stops deploying rather than quietly publishing a stale number.

Payment processing, VAT and the 1,500 high-value threshold come from other sections of the same document and from Whatnot's high-value order policy. Those are maintained by hand and dated on the page. Rates were last checked against the source on 2026-11-04.

Who runs it

An independent developer who sells on resale platforms and got tired of arithmetic. Not affiliated with Whatnot. If you find a rate that does not match your own receipt, that is the most useful thing you can send us — see contact.
